Are You Tired of Top Ten Lists?

Top Ten List

Are you as tired as I am of “Top Ten” this and “20 Best Ways” to do that? Every article, newsletter, Facebook entry or tweet contains some mutation of “Top 15 Reasons Why You Should (fill in the blank!)” I know, I know. Even NoWorriesIT’s own eNewsletter has occasionally buckled under the pressure of the current trend and recently included a “5 Reasons You May Not Know…” article.Of course you’re tired of top ten lists and rightly so.

But the truth of the matter is, the whole “Top Ten” method really works, even when you are aware it’s kind of a gimmick. It still makes us want to open up that article, email, newsletter, etc., and find out the “Top 15 Reasons Why I should do…(whatever it is I should be doing!)” Come on…admit it!

Don’t you sometimes wonder, though, why you need to know the “Top 10 Ways to Trick Out Your Desk Top?” Seriously! My day is a little too busy for “tricking out” my desk top. On the other hand, it probably is important for us to know “50 Innovative Ways to Get More Facebook FanPage Likes,” but truthfully, all I can think is: Somebody had an awful lot of time on their hands to sit around and come up with fifty different methods to do so.

I was a little afraid to open this one: “5 Ways to Hack Your Brain.” (These are all real, by the way. I’m not making these up!) However, you should open it…it’s kind of fun.

My favorite “Top Ten List” was one that I just happened to come across in my researching for something completely different. It’s “The Top 10 New Breakthrough Technology 2014/MIT.” At least “Breakthrough Technology” is an uplifting topic, but unfortunately, I’m still recuperating from hacking my brain and can’t concentrate on such heady matters at the moment!

As a Wannabe Techno Geek, I’m always interested in Techno Lists. Here are a few that caught my attention recently: “Top 3 Best Anti-Viruses,” “Top 5 iPhone Apps,” “Top 10 Free Software for Your Windows,” and “Top 9 Countries with the Fastest Internet.” There are Top (Fill-in-the-number) lists for just about any Techno topic you’d like to ponder.  For fellow Techno Geeks, the “2014 Top 100 Technology Blogs” is surely a winner, and should keep you busy perusing till late spring. And, I can only aspire to one day be included among its ranks! Dream on, Jean.

Have you found any interesting, unique, or utterly strange “Top 10, 20, 50 lists that you’d like to share? I’d love to hear about them.
